How to read these numbers

This page brings together the latest full-year figures from the Recording Industry Association of America and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. The U.S. numbers are wholesale revenue figures. The global numbers use IFPI's recorded music market reporting. They are useful side by side, but they are not interchangeable measures.

Each statistic links to its original source. We keep the wording close to the reported figure, preserve the reporting year, and update this reference when the next major year-end reports are available.

Music is better when it becomes a memory.
